Ribes Triste Used for Contraception and Abortion?

Many reports state that our native Ribes Triste plant (and some of its wild relatives) not only produce extremely nutritious berries that are high in iron, but also have "antifertility properties," and were commonly used to regulate, prevent or encourage the menstrual flow in women, before the plants were banned and largely destroyed in the early 1900s.
