How Many?

We count how many were killed,
In their vile and barbaric wars,
As if this is the greatest tragedy.
Far worse than this happens,
Yet has been left uncounted
While starving for a remedy.
How many were deeply hurt?
How many were left to suffer?
How many fully traumatized?
How often did real honesty
Rise high above the usual
Cover-ups and lies?
How many of the victims
Received proper care and help?
How many had a chance to heal;
How many were surrounded
By genuine compassion
For how they all must feel?
